The Light has gone once more....
The day starts to slow
A retiring sun descends to cast long glistening shadows across the marshlands.
A Wing of Golden Plover take to flight;
twisting and turning to catch rays of sunlight that will disappear all too soon.
Curlews sweep the plains, bubbling melodic lullabies
to egrets fishing in crystal still pools;
Reflections of balletic poise
In the cool shades of sunset
Skeins of Brent geese purr gently across indigo skies
Casting dark shadows,
A reminder of the night that will come
A ghostly barn owl hovers over fading rustic fields
Hoping to find morsals
Whilst the rain is at bay
Overhead a murmuration of starlings rise
Filling the sky like black locusts
A dance of darkness
Till all is at rest, just the faint sound of a Cetti
Singing the reed beds to sleep
A final breath
The light has gone once more
